Return to La Paz by Thomas Reissmann
Return to La Paz is the bizarre but entirely true story of a traveller from East
Germany who had enough of the Wall. For the first thirteen years of his life
Tom is jailed behind the Wall in East Germany. When the Wall comes
down, Tom escapes and goes in search of freedom. It’s an action-packed
pursuit. Tom is constantly on the move. He does a variety of jobs, but his
main search is for new experiences. Eventually, he ends up in South
America looking for god through shamanism and Ayahuasca, a
hallucinogenic substance, and gets entangled in the deadly politics of the
drug trade. Though the political Wall which had imprisoned him in his
childhood has collapsed, he creates new walls and pushes himself to the
limit to break them.
The book is as much about the people the protagonist encounters, as it is
about his travels; a factual fantasy -Suryakumari Dennison, Deccan Herald
